Doctoral Program Funding and Research Support

Funding

Doctoral students receive significant funding to ensure that they are able to immerse themselves in the program. Funding for the first four years includes full tuition and fees. Students in the first two years will also receive a $15,000 research assistantship for work with an SSA faculty member for 10-12 hours per week. In their third and fourth years, students will receive a $12,000 teaching assistantship in exchange for work as a TA or lecturer in one course each year. Students in years five and beyond will receive an 82 percent tuition benefit.

Office of Grants and Research

In addition to institutional support, SSA students have been very successful in obtaining competitive fellowships (such as the CSWE Fellowships for Minority Students, Illinois Consortium for Educational Opportunity Program Fellowships, NIH Dissertation awards).

The SSA Office of Grants and Contract provides support in the following areas:

  • Funding Opportunity Searches
  • Proposal Planning and Development
  • Central Administration/Sponsor Liaison
  • Award Administration
  • Financial Management/Coordination of Financial Reports to Sponsors
