Save the Date! June 6 - June 7, 2008
Alumni Weekend is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with your classmates and friends. It’s also a great time to revisit the campus, remember traditions, and see what’s new at the University of Chicago and the School of Social Service Administration.
As the School kicks off its Centennial year celebration in the fall of 2008, we invite you to be a part of this moment in history and join us as we continue celebrating the whole year through!
Alumni Weekend promises to be packed with events for the entire family that highlight all that is special and unique about the University of Chicago. Voted as one of Chicago’s Seven Wonders, the University is considered a gem to the City of Chicago – just one more reason for alumni to be proud.
SSA is planning a host of activities specific to our alumni interests, including Professional Development Program sessions, the Rhoda G. Sarnat Lecture, and of course the annual SSA Nite! – our pinnacle alumni celebration where we will present the 2008 Elizabeth Butler Award and honor our milestone classes.
Alumni Weekend 2008 will be a fascinating extravaganza, especially if you're there! Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information!

Friday, June 6
Recognizing and Treating Bipolar Disorder
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: International House
This SSA Professional Development workshop presented by Brian Quinn, Ph.D., LCSW, AM '70 will provide attendees with a five-part clinical diagnostic method to accurately identify and appropriately treat clients with bipolar disorder. 3.0 CECs.
Annual Alumni and Student of Color Networking and Alumni Awards Event
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Location: SSA
The 2nd Annual Alumni of Color Networking and Awards Event is hosted by the African American Students Association (AASA) and the Latino Students Association (LSA) of the School of Social Service Administration and the Minorities in Public Policy Students (MIPPS) of the Harris School of Public Policy. Both schools will honor an alum of color for his or her notable achievement in their respective fields.

50 Plus Luncheon

Location: Quadrangle Club
SSA alumni who graduated in 1958 or earlier are invited to attend this special luncheon held in their honor.
Rhoda G. Sarnat Lecture
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Location: Quadrangle Club
Eileen D. Gambrill, the Hutto Patterson Professor in Child and Family Studies at The University of California at Berkeley School of Social Welfare, has agreed to give the 2008 Rhoda G. Sarnat Lecture on Saturday, June 7.
The Sarnat Lecture, founded through the generosity of Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat, is held annually during Alumni Weekend and delivered by a prominent researcher or practitioner on a topic especially pertinent to clinical social work. Details on this event will be available shortly through the Alumni Office.
SSA Nite!
5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Location: SSA
A festive celebration for SSA alumni and friends with special recognition for milestone classes. The SSA Alumni Association will also present the 2008 Elizabeth Butler Award. Nominations for the award are due March 1. The cost is $20 per person. (Complimentary admission to the classes of 1958, 2003-2007, and current SSA students and faculty.)
