SSA students and faculty are also involved with smaller scale projects throughout the South Side. When Associate Professor Waldo E. Johnson, Jr. was "principal for a day" at Till Academy last fall, for example, he discovered that their library needed help affixing bar codes on their books. He contacted the University's Community Service Center and found several University students willing to help.
"I'm very fortunate to have had experiences that have scaffolded my understanding in very meaningful, somewhat unexpected, ways. I've been lucky through my work, field placements, and classes to be able to see the various roles social workers can fill."
