Biography

Michael R. Sosin is the Emily Klein Gidwitz Professor in the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. He is an affiliate of the Institute for Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin- Madison and the Population Studies Center at the University of Chicago. His fields of special interest include social welfare institutions, social policy, social administration, substance abuse services, urban poverty and homelessness.

Professor Sosin is interested generally in the relationship between social institutions and disadvantaged clients. His publications include works on homelessness, the juvenile justice system, the child welfare system, private non-profit organizations, managed care, substance abuse interventions, and treatment dropout.

In addition to his faculty appointments, Professor Sosin serves as editor of Social Service Review, a leading professional journal in the field of social welfare.

Professor Sosin, a graduate of the College of the University of Chicago, received an M.S.W., M.A. (Sociology), and Ph.D. (Social Work and Sociology) from the University of Michigan.
