School of Social Service Administration & Chapin Hall Institutional Review Board

The Social Service Administration Institutional Review Board (SSA/CH IRB) web site is a resource for all investigators from the School of Social Service Administration and Chapin Hall conducting human subjects research. To access AURA (the electronic research administrative system) click here.

For biological or medical research IRB information, contact the BSD/Hospitals IRB. For all other non-biomedical units and areas of research at the University of Chicago, contact the SBS IRB.

Purpose of SSA/CH IRB:

The University of Chicago's Federalwide Assurance (FWA) requires that ALL research conducted with human subjects or data generated from human subjects be reviewed and approved by an appropriate IRB.

Functions of SSA/CH IRB:

  • The SSA/CH IRB reviews and approves, disapproves, or defers all research protocols.
  • Provides assistance with IRB applications for staff, students, and faculty
  • Provides the NIH-mandated educational sessions on the fundamentals of the protection of human subjects. This requirement applies to all key personnel on NIH funded research. NIH Guide announcement.
