This course provides an overview of the essential elements of group work with children. Students will learn how to plan and execute a psychoeducational group, as well as have an understanding of other forms of group work. The course provides tools to design group therapy that is based on principles of child development and targeted diagnostic issues. Students will develop an understanding of social, racial, and cultural dynamics in group therapy with children. Students will be able to identify and address ethical issues in conformity with the NASW Code of Ethics. Students will also gain knowledge in monitoring and assessment of group work efficacy.
