The School of Social Service Administration (SSA) is pleased to announce an expansion of its faculty. We invite applications for multiple faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor ranks. We are particularly interested in candidates with an international perspective whose scholarship focuses on global processes and issues conceived broadly, ranging from domestic to international social welfare concerns and from micro to macro levels of analysis. Examples of areas of interest include immigration and refugee populations and problems, cross-cultural intervention, community economic and social development, violence and conflict prevention and remediation, and comparative evidence-based practice and social policy. In addition to a search for scholars with expertise in global issues, we are also seeking to hire scholars with expertise in aging or school-based social work practice.

Applicants must possess a doctorate (or be nearing completion of dissertation) in social work or a related social science field and have a strong commitment to research, teaching and service. For those applicants interested in teaching courses in direct practice, a master's degree in social work and two years of post-master's direct practice experience are preferred, although we will also consider candidates with a doctorate and experience in psychology, counseling, public health, or a related field. For all positions, preference will be given to candidates with research interests relevant to disadvantaged populations and who demonstrate a commitment to the ideals set forth in the "University of Chicago Diversity Statement."

The University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration builds upon a legacy of more than a century of scholarship, education and leadership in social work and social welfare, mixing a distinctive interdisciplinary tradition with applied problem solving to foster innovative solutions to some of society's most pressing social problems.

The University of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a statement that outlines research and teaching interests, a Curriculum Vita, three reference letters, and a sample of 2-3 current writings.

Please note that the reference letters should be emailed to Suzanne Fournier, Assistant Dean for Administration, SSA. Please indicate the applicant name on the subject line for quick identification.

Applications for the level of Assistant Professor must include a copy of the dissertation or dissertation proposal. Review will continue until positions are filled or March 31, 2012 when the search for this academic year will be closed.
Please apply online at the Academic Career Opportunities web page at the University of Chicago website.
