On August 4, 2016, SSA’s Center for Health Administration Studies (CHAS) partnered with UChicago’s Computation Institute (CI) to co-host the “Big Data in Health Workshop,” which was supported by seed grant funding from UChicago’s Big Ideas Generator (BIG). The workshop had three goals: (1) to broaden the way we think about interdisciplinary collaboration necessary to advance data science at the University; (2) to build on ongoing data science projects; and (3) to stimulate new big data collaborations in health and health policy. Select researchers and experts associated with various "big data" applications on campus, including cloud computing, informatics, EMRs, genomics, preventative analytics and evidence-based projects, were invited for a day of presentations and discussions to understand the state of big data on campus.
