Vickii Coffey, AM '97
2002 Recipient of the Elizabeth Butler Award
Vickii Coffey has been a tireless advocate for abused women and children for 15 years. She has expanded services and advocacy, collaborating with municipal and county agencies and helping to transform social systems that identify and respond to victims of abuse.
Ms. Coffey influences public policy through her membership on numerous federal committees, and she testified before Congress urging the passage of the Violence Against Women Act.
She is a past executive director of the Chicago Abused Women Coalition. As president of Vickii Coffey & Associates, she provides programmatic, policy, advocacy, and community organizing services for clients working in domestic violence prevention and intervention. In 1994, Ms. Coffey was awarded the President's Crime Victim Service Award. Two years later, she received the Human Dignity Award from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and last year she was honored by the National Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community.
A graduate of the School of Social Service Administration's evening program, Ms. Coffey is committed to social change and justice. The School honors Vickii Coffey for the passion, kindness, humor, courage, and genuine concern for others that have motivated her to seek change.
