Oakwood Shores Development, Pershing and Vincennes

Associate Professor Robert Chaskin is leading a multifaceted study of several mixed-income communities that have been built by the Chicago Housing Authority to replace former highrise public housing, including the Oakwood Shores Development on the near South Side. The research, which explores the complexities of the transformation of the environment around relocated public housing residents and the nature of social interaction with market-rate renters and owners, has informed the CHA and the MacArthur Foundation for their plans for youth activities, resident supports and facilitation of positive interactions among all residents.
