Chapin Hall Center for Children

The architecture or University of Chicago The Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago engages in policy research in child welfare and children's services. Its primary functions include collecting and reporting data on the condition of children, conducting research in areas of special interest for children, families and communities, and providing information and stimulating discussion about children's issues. Faculty from the School of Social Service Administration are associates of the Center and direct research under its auspices. SSA doctoral and master level students are research associates and assistants on many of the Center's projects and are active participants in seminars and discussions.

Center for Health Administration Studies

The Center for Health Administration Studies (CHAS) conducts interdisciplinary studies of local, national, and international health services delivery, with the mission of improving care delivery to vulnerable populations, particularly in urban settings. The Center specializes in evaluation studies that combine elements of medical care delivery, social services, and public health. An affiliate of the School of Social Service Administration, CHAS draws on the University's outstanding faculty in management, medicine, public policy, and the social sciences. CHAS also supports a substantial program of education, workshop and symposia, and dissemination of health services research.

Center for Family Health

The Center for Family Health at the University of Chicago was established to provide an interdisciplinary center for research, advanced academic studies, clinical training, and social policy directed to the promotion of healthy family development, functioning, and adaptation to biologically-based and psychosocial life challenges. The Center, co-directed by Froma Walsh, Ph.D. and John Rolland, M.D., is based in the School of Social Service Administration and the Department of Psychiatry, with involvement of faculty and students in Medicine, Psychology, Human Development, and other related disciplines.

Center for Social Work Practice Research

The Center for Social Work Practice Research , directed by Elsie M. Pinkston, Ph.D., provides leadership in the development and evaluation of social work intervention. The Center's aims are to:
  • Develop effective social work practice research;
  • Collaborate with community agencies on research about clinical practices;
  • Provide clinical practice consultation services; and,
  • Foster graduate education in clinical practice and research methodology.
