Fifty Plus Alumni Meet SSA Student Leaders for Lunch

Alumni and their guests from the classes of 1962 and earlier will be honored, and will meet SSA student leaders from the class of 2013.

Self-Care/Wellness Retreat
Location: University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, 969 E. 60th St. (Ellis and 60th Street) Chicago, IL 60637
Noon - 3:00 pm • $15 fee ($5 for SSA students. Students should register, but can pay on site.) • Registration required.
Introduce wellness and self-care into the fabric of your everyday life by experiencing techniques for healthy living and sound mind-body balance. Practitioners from various fields including nutrition, fitness and spa services, massage therapy and yoga will be yours for the afternoon.
Participants will choose at least three activities from the following:
- African Dance
- Kickboxing
- Yoga
- Pilates
- Guided Meditation/Mindfulness
- Thai or Chair Massage Therapy
- Mini Manicure
- Mini Pedicure
- Healthy Food Demonstration
Healthy drinks and snacks will be served

A Night for Stars: SSA Stars Celebration Gala
Location: The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Ballroom in the MacLean Building, 112 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60603
6:00 - 10:00 pm
$80 per ticket; $75 per ticket when you buy two or more tickets. • Net proceeds to be donated to the Dolores Norton Scholarship supporting students of early child development.

Hosted by the SSA Alumni Association, the SSA Stars Celebration Gala will feature the presentations of the Elizabeth Butler Award, Distinctive Innovation in Social Services Award, the announcement of the first recipient of the Dolores Norton Scholarship and recognition of Dolores Norton, the Samuel Deutsch Professor Emerita, who is a recipient of the University’s 2012 Norman Maclean Award for excellence in teaching and contributions to campus life. Unique entertainment and dining will be enjoyed by guests.

Founder and Executive Director, Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation
Rachel Durchslag founded CAASE, a progressive enterprise that raises awareness about sexual violence and sex trafficking, with the goal of prevention. By initiating educational programs and innovative data collection, CAASE is making significant advances and has achieved a national presence in the fight to end sexual exploitation.
The Elizabeth Butler Award honors one recent graduate who has shown exceptional promise in the field of social work and has earned an A.M. or Ph.D. from SSA not more than 10 years ago, and no less than five.
Distinctive Innovation in Social Services Award

GAC provides remarkable services and opportunities for its close to 500 members. The mission of GAC is to provide Milwaukee County residents, who have experienced mental illness, opportunities and support to achieve more socially satisfying and vocationally productive lives.
The Distinctive Innovation Award recognizes social service agencies or programs that demonstrate innovation in their approaches and practices that generate sustained results for their clients and enhanced learning for their employees and the field.
The Dolores Norton Endowed Scholarship in Early Child Development
Established to Honor the Distinguished Career of
Samuel Deutsch Professor, Emerita
This scholarship is being established to support students who will advance the development of knowledge that will enhance the field of early child development pioneered by Professor Dolores “Dodie” Norton. Professor Norton is renowned for original scholarship and her highly personalized teaching that spanned four decades. She is completing a first-of-itskind, 20-year longitudinal study of minority children from low-income families living on Chicago’s South Side. “Children at Risk: The Infant Child Development Project” is unparalleled in its design and scope in documenting the
influence of parenting styles, norms, language and behaviors that predict successful development and learning from newborn to age three.
Students selected to become Norton Scholars will demonstrate superior academic achievement, excellence in their field work, and distinctive contributions to peers as well as to the mission of SSA.
