The State of Illinois requires all students entering a college or university to show proof of immunization against certain vaccine-preventable diseases before registration. All registered students must show proof of immunity to the following diseases:
- Measles (rubella): two inoculations received no less than one month apart
- German measles (rubella)
- Mumps
- Diphtheria: within the past 10 years
- Tetanus: within the past 10 years
Required for all international students:
- 3 Diphtheria shots: at least one in the past 10 years
- 3 Tetanus shots: at least one in the past 10 years
The information presented on the immunization record card must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation. The Student Care Center will administer vaccines for a fee.
All students at the University are required to pay a quarterly health service fee and, in return, are eligible to receive primary health care in the Student Care Center and counseling services in the Student Counseling and Resource Service.
Student Care Center services include, but are not limited to:
- Unlimited visits to a personal physician
- Access to medical advice twenty-four hours a day
- Routine physicals
- Health education program
- Student mental health services
Student Counseling and Resource services include, but are not limited to:
- Out patient mental health
- Therapist on-call
- Support groups
- Academic/study skills
Some services not covered by Student Health Fee:
- Specialized care
- Emergency services
- Outside referrals
- Laboratory tests
- X-rays
- Hospitalizations
All students must be covered either by the University's Student Accident & Sickness Insurance (SASI) plan or by a health insurance policy comparable to that offered through the University.
