SSA Student Demographics

University of Chicago students are bright, well-rounded, and diverse. They come from community colleges, from Ivy League universities, or from years on the job. Their ages, ethnicities, and training backgrounds vary, but they form relationships through the common experience of learning together.

The SSA class of 2008-2009 consists of 214 students: 

  • 37% students of color
  • 75% from the Midwest
  • 48% under twenty-five years old
  • 38% between 25-29 years old
  • 10% between 30-40 years
  • 4% over forty years old

More than a dozen undergraduate majors are represented in the class, including psychology, sociology, anthropology, business, International studies, English, religion, history, languages, theatre, political science and social work. The average GPA is 3.5.
