Tuition and Fees
All payments of tuition and fees must be completed by the end of the fifth week of any quarter. If a student has not paid any University account in full, restriction of further privileges or services may follow.
The fees listed here are for the academic year 2009-10.
- Application fee, $60 This fee must accompany the original application for admission to the University. No part of this fee is either refunded or applied as an advance payment on other fees.
- Advance reservation deposit, $250
Credited to autumn quarter tuition - Student Accident & Sickness insurance, each quarter
This fee may be waived if student is already covered under a suitable group hospitalization plan. (See Medical Care section of this site.)
- Basic Plan (student only), $675
- Advantage Plan (student only), $1,030
- Dependents (spouse/domestic partner), $1,854
- Family Plan (spouse/domestic partner, children) $2,884
- Student Life fee (each quarter), $238
- Special service fees:
a. Field work registration per quarter, $25
b. Late registration, $100, A fee charged to students who fail to register within the officially scheduled registration period.
c. Late payment of fees, $100
d. Change in registration, $50, A fee charged for each change in registration made by a student after the officially scheduled change period (fourth week of quarter) unless change is result of University action. - One time transcript fee, $45
- Master's program, per quarter:
- Normal graduate program of three courses, $11,395
- EEP and part-time day program of 2 courses, $8,147
- 1 course, $4,720
- Tuition fees for doctoral program, per quarter:
- Scholastic residence, $11,395
- Advanced residence, $4,496
Note 1. Pro Forma status fee is $247 each quarter.
Note 2. Students who pay tuition for a normal program may audit, without extra charge, classes in addition to those for which they are registered, subject in each case to the approval of the instructor. Under these conditions the students are not registered for the courses, and work is not made a part of their official records.
Note 3. Doctoral students on the Quadrangles who are engaged in research or who are working on a dissertation (or essay or formal piece of writing required for a higher degree), whether or not they have completed the course requirements for the degree, are required to pay tuition each quarter or the advanced residence fee.
Note 4. Students who are required to withdraw for disciplinary reasons shall not be entitled to any refund of tuition or fees. Fees and other charges are subject to change from year to year prior to the beginning of each academic year.
Listed below are sample budgets for the 2009-10 academic year. These may help you assess your financial needs for the school year. This budget includes estimates for personal and living expenses. The budget figures are based on a modest standard of living (graduate student housing and few gourmet meals).
Estimates are based upon an academic year of three quarters and include food, shelter, laundry and cleaning, textbooks, incidentals, clothing, recreation, and commuting costs (for travel to and from field instruction only.)
