The Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and Chapin Hall Institutional Review Board (Crown-CH IRB) web pages are a resource for all investigators from the Crown Family School conducting human subjects research. Purpose of the Crown-CH IRB:

The University of Chicago's Federalwide Assurance (FWA) requires that ALL research conducted with human subjects or data generated from human subjects be reviewed and approved by an appropriate IRB.

Functions of the Crown-CH IRB:

  • The Crown-CH IRB reviews and approves, disapproves, or defers all research protocols.
  • Provides assistance with IRB applications for staff, students, and faculty
  • Provides the CITI educational course on the fundamentals of the protection of human subjects. This requirement applies to all researchers conducting human subjects research.

For biological or medical research IRB information, contact the BSD/Hospitals IRB. For all other non-biomedical units and areas of research at the University of Chicago, contact the Crown-CH IRB.
